Day THREE : Round Two complete

Eight matches in the bottom half of the draws today as the quarter-finalists were settled. It was a different schedule today, with three lunchtime matches and five in the evening – this was because the official opening of the DPD Hub took place this afternoon (featuring world #1s Ali Farag and Raneem El Welily).

All of today’s matches went with seeding, but there were some narrow escapes as  Laura Massaro, Karim Abdel Gawad, Tesni Evans and Marwan ElShorbagy were all taken the distance.

In the women’s matches Massaro battled her way back from two games down against Hollie Naughton while Evans came through a seesaw match against Mariam Metwally.  Camille Serme beat Yathreb Adel in four while world champion Nour El Sherbini beat long-time Dutch resident Nicol David with some ease.

Marwan was tested to the full by Welshman Joel Makin, and now faces elder brother Mohamed who continued his winning run over Chris Simpson. Gawad finally got the better of Gregoire Marche while Paul Coll despatched Raphael Kandra.
